About Bowen
Founded in 1861 Bowen is located on the Bruce Highway 1165 kilometres north of Brisbane, adjacent to the northern end of the Whitsundays. The shire covers 21,000 square kms and has a population of nearly 14,000.

Bowen has been referred to as the climate capital of Australia, with temperatures remaining fairly constant year round, allowing for all year swimming. The hottest months are between November and March averaging 35 degrees celsius, the coolest month is June, and the wettest is February with over 180mm in 2002.
The shire has rich and fertile farmlands and grazing country and supplies an enormous amount of produce to other parts of Australia. It also has a large commercial fishing fleet supplying prawns, reef fish, mackerel, scallops, mud crabs and other seafood for both the domestic and export markets.
The town boasts good public amenities including a bus service, hospital, primary and secondary schools, dentists, vetinarians, social and sporting clubs, racecourse, small airport, retirement and nursing homes, and modern shopping precincts and restaurants to name but a few.
Above all though, Bowen is noted for its outstanding beaches including the much photographed Horseshoe Bay, interesting bush walks, superb fishing and diving locations and a number of historic sites immortalised in a number of unique townscape murals dotted around the town.
There is plenty to keep you interested in this growing and vibrant town, and we at the Bowen Arrow Motel will do everything to make your stay a happy one.
